Before placing your pc on the floor be sure to think about airflow. Your computer would be at the most risk of static damage when you place it on the carpet move it on the carpet or pick it up off the carpet. This isn t the best option for various reasons and you should really have your pc tower on a computer stand. However that being said i don t think it s a fire hazard or anything so it s probably safe also if your machine begins to get clogged with dust.

As stated in the other answers dust at the floor. Your pc will be just at home sitting on a flat floor as it would on a flat desk. But this isn t always possible and many people leave their computer tower on the floor often on carpet. And if you don t have any carpet at all this isn t a concern.

It is also equally as bad to place directly on carpet as that increases dust levels greatly and also blocks the psu power supply unit from underneath airflow. I ve seen some people have the computer in a cupboard desk suffocating itself in a hot pocket of static air. But ultimately is is completely safe to have your pc on the carpet. Is the static generated by the carpet a threat.

Avoid placing your tower pc on thick carpet. Also i think if i put my computer in my desk it will. Generally not good you need ventilation to avoid overheating dust clogs in said ventilation. If the carpet is a problem consider putting it on a platform or stand on the carpet.
